Renovations

Also up for the following awards: 2014 OHBA Design Award Finalists – Most Outstanding Home Renovation, Custom Kitchen, Exterior Detail and Exterior Living Space.

This whole house remodel includes: a complete exterior renovation with front portico and rear covered porch; an open concept kitchen and living area; a mudroom entry; two remodeled baths, powder and laundry rooms.

Our design plan embraced the bungalow living concept of the home by maximizing efficient use of space inside and out, without adding a second level addition.  This was ultimately why our firm was selected over others.  To begin, the existing hidden entry was updated with a grand portico, which not only beckons visitors but also softens the home’s overall appearance.  The home is so welcoming that the homeowners have strangers stopping by to compliment them on the change!

Inside, a mudroom entry from the garage was created by relocated the existing kitchen.  To accommodate space for the new kitchen the main stairs were moved, allowing for creation of the open concept floor plan. The result was improved function and flow of the entire first floor.  The kitchen’s layout needed to allow for the entire family to prepare meals together and work well for entertaining. Load bearing posts were incorporated as a design element in the formal dining room. A new fireplace is the focal point of the living room.

Heat gain from an existing client-built deck was eliminated by the addition of a handsome covered porch that features an outdoor kitchen and skylights for flow of natural light into the home. By using a metal pile foundation, the existing deck was kept intact and the lawn remained untouched.

Sustainable building resources such as T&G cedar soffits, use and refinishing of existing building materials and energy efficient selections such as spray foam insulation, low VOC finishes, and lowE windows can be found throughout.
