This custom home was designed as a unique, efficient, and durable home overlooking the Rideau River. The first design challenge was to create a home that stands apart from the "typical homes" and to design the home to fit on a small lot (with a septic system). The living areas were designed to take advantage of the river's view.
The second design challenge was to incorporate the 100 yr. flood plain (determined by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, RVCA). To meet RVCA requirements, a crawl space had to be incorporated and all mechanical systems had to be above the 100 yr. flood plain (at the main floor level). As a result, meeting the township's lot criteria was challenging.
This design has endless opportunities for various room layouts and changes, without changing the overall aesthetic qualities of the home.
