This Renovation & Addition was a complete overhaul of the existing home. Emphasis was placed on aesthetics as well as interior layout. The view of the Rideau River was taken advantage of by adding angled glazing. The addition incorporates a Dinette, Family room, Master Bedroom and En suite, Powder room, Large Mud room, Garage, and dramatic front entrance. Along with the addition new roof lines where added, creating a dramatic new look. Interlock walkways, and patio areas, along with planter areas compliment the addition to create a stunning front & rear yard.
Emphasis was placed on designing an addition that blends into the existing, flows well, and lets an abundance of natural light into the existing home. The design challenge was to create an aesthetically pleasing addition by trying to incorporate the existing structure as much as possible. The existing structure was very long and high (Formerly used as a commercial repair garage), as well, parts of the existing structure consisted of a mobile trailer further challenging the design.
A panoramic angled window, along with high ceilings were used to create a feeling of openness and expanse. The Dinette is directly off the kitchen creating a country kitchen atmosphere. The Family room incorporates a wood fireplace and overlooks the Rideau River. The Mud room was designed to handle large traffic due to the customer having a home business. The original garage had a "unique angle" which was taken advantage of with the final design.
