House Exterior Renovation

VOILA!

A lovely exterior and bathroom renovation.

BEFORE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

This bathroom won an annual housing award from the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association.

The homeowners came to Lagois with a dream of creating intrigue at the entry to their home, incorporate stone with the existing vinyl siding and bring a refreshed look to the façade.

We created a new roofline over the front entry to accentuate the new craftsman-style door. The use of timber gable trusses adds character and brings an element of warmth to the new stone.  We removed the front porch railing and replaced all the posts with new Douglas Fir timbers. We maintained the original siding and, to create a cohesive look, we carried the stone upwards to the second-floor gable.

The homeowners also wanted to upgrade their primary ensuite. Their closed-in shower and skirted tub made for an uninviting space and did not offer a functional space. A single sink vanity wasn’t conducive to an efficient morning routine, and the lack of storage was a concern, so we replaced the vanity with a larger double sink vanity with extra storage.

By removing the framed shower wall and bulky skirted tub, we opened up the space and made room for a much larger glass shower.  The new free-standing tub created a more open and elevated look to the space. To create a cohesive and elegant look, we used the same Calcutta tile for the floor, shower walls and tub surround. The smaller hexagon mosaic tile used on the shower floor and niches creates visual interest against the subtler Calcutta tile.
