People often ask me what Perfecting the Art of Living® means.

I believe it begins with intention: the intention to design a life before designing a house.

It means creating places that invite conversation instead of distraction. It means leaving room for silence, for changing seasons, for children to grow, for parents to become old with dignity.

It means ordinary mornings that simply become the memories we treasure most. Perfecting the Art of Living is the true purpose of thoughtful architecture. It doesn’t stand out and demand attention but supports the life happening within it. Like the best music, it fills you and makes you happy and stays with you through all the ups and downs of life.

Some day I’ll look back and forget lots of meetings I’ve attended, even some projects I’ve completed or milestones I’ve lived through.

But I know what I will remember. It will be Dawson casting another line into still water. It will be Sabrina sitting quietly on the porch as evening settles around us. It will be little Chase saying his first words. It will be conversations around a fire that no one wanted to leave.

It will be homes filled with laughter.

And this is what Perfecting the Art of Living® has always meant to me.
