Darren Vander Meer, Lagois Production Manager and Chair of the Trade Development Initiative for the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association, was part of a panel recently that addressed the critical issue of a gap in Canada’s skilled trades sector.

Along with Kirby Whiteduck, President and CEO, Pineshi Group; Stuart Simpson, Training Director, Local 47 (Sheet Metal  Workers and Roofers); and John DeVries, Former President and General Manager, Ottawa Construction Association, Darren discussed the growing gap between trade supply and demand in the Ottawa region and across the country.

The panel, called "The Trade-off: Confronting Canada's Skilled Trades Gap", was held at Interior Finishing Systems Training Centre (IFSTC) on Donald Street, Ottawa, and moderated by James Raiswell, Director of Communications at BuildForce Canada. It was attended by industry professionals to discuss apprenticeship, solutions and training.
