You’re a Canadian when you’ve dribbled maple syrup into fresh snow.
It’s March in the Ottawa area, and you know what that means. It’s time for a trip to the sugarbush.

Here’s a list of places the Lagois team thinks you might like to visit, especially if there are children in your life.
Stanley’s Sugarbush
2452 York's Corners Rd., Edwards, Ont.
Saturdays and Sundays until April 12
March break: March 17 – March 20
Stanley’s is a family-owned and operated farm that has been welcoming visitors for more than 32 years. Enjoy taffy on the snow, tractor-drawn rides, a barn full of animals, a heritage sugar shack and a delicious pancake breakfast.
More information about hours and prices here.
Wheelers Sugarbush
1001 Highland Line, McDonalds Corners, Ont.
Tuesday to Sunday 9am – 3pm
March 1 to April 26 - Reservations required
The Wheelers have been tapping trees since 1978, and since then their family business has grown into one of the largest maple syrup producers in Ontario. Visit the sugar camp to see how the sweet stuff is made, head to the blacksmith shop to explore hand-forged items, and meet the sheep and alpacas at the barn. You will probably want to go to the pancake house for a homemade breakfast (but be sure to book your table in advance).

The Log Farm
670 Cedarview Rd., OttawaStarting March 7 between 9 am and 3 pm
Take a wagon ride out to the sugarbush to see how maple syrup is made, or go for a walk through the trails of sugar maples to taste some sweet taffy on snow. Help gather the sap around the sugarbush, too. (The sap flow is weather dependent, +5 degrees and sunny are the best days to collect.)
You can also visit the farmyard with all the farm animals. There are play areas including hay structures and corn tables for kids and a pioneer farmhouse where you can take guided tours.
